Bao Mo Garden

This was our excursion to Bao Mo Garden, in Panyu, which is only about a 15 minute cab ride from our house.  It was built at the end of the Qing Dynasty and damaged in the 1950's, then was rebuilt in the mid 1990's .

This was a beautiful carved concrete sculpture near the front entrance.

This was the sign next to it :)  So many of the signs don't translate quite how we would say things.

One of the 30 bridges in the garden.

This was a golden statue surrounded by a lotus flower pond.

This was a beautiful mural depicting a riverside scene of the Qingming festival.

These were one of the groups of people that were taking our pictures throughout the day.  After we let them take our picture, Luke also took theirs.

Feeding some of the 1000's of Koi in the ponds throughout the park.  A big bag of food cost 1 kwai or 16 cents.

This fish literally came out of the water to take the food from Mason.
This is what happens when you poor the rest of your food in all at once.  They all started swarming and swimming on top of each other and made quite a splash.

The not what you see in the US... These were two of the signs that we have seen many places that just don't translate well from Chinese to English, but they do make us smile :)

This was the beautiful entrance to the museum with a carved pillar and a painted ceiling.  In the museum there was this beautiful golden buddha statue, some ceramic pottery and lots of jade sculptures.

A section of the garden that had some cool bonsai type trees.

We ran into two of our office coworkers, Dorothy and Heather at the park.  They are basically the assistants to the superintendent and principal and are the two people who helped us the first few weeks when we arrived.

These were two amazing, old trees in the park.

A stone tablet that survived the bombing and destruction in the 50's.

A buddha statue, people often give money to worship their religious relics.

A turtle pond where there were hundreds of turtles.

These were some wax statues that depicted a chinese processional,  they looked so real it was scary.

This was a beautiful stone carving of nature, including fish and birds, near the entrance/exit.
